The World Cup
00:00 / 09:09

"People who speak different languages, who wear different colours, and who have very different traditions — get together, united by the same passion. That is the World Cup."

Picture this: it's 1930, and teams are climbing onto boats to sail to Uruguay — because that's the only way to get there. Thirteen teams. No planes. No broadcast. Just football and a whole lot of hope. Today? Nearly 200 countries fight for just 48 places across. The rules have changed. The game has changed. But that feeling — of chasing something big — has never changed at all. Players move like artists, coaches think like chess masters — and every four years, the whole world stops to watch.

But first, every team has to earn the right to be there. Years of qualifying matches, then a draw into groups of four. Win enough and you reach the knockout stage — where one loss sends you home. Round by round the field shrinks, until just two teams remain. Those two play the biggest match on Earth: the World Cup Final. One game. One trophy. One moment nobody ever forgets.
